Emmerson Mnangagwa, the President of Zimbabwe, set the date of the nation’s upcoming elections on August 23, kicking off a campaign season among political parties and prospective candidates.

According to local media, Mr. Mnangagwa selected June 21 as the day that nomination courts around the nation would convene to accept applications from political parties and their candidates to participate in the elections.

The president was supposed to announce the date on Monday, but he postponed doing so, telling reporters he will do it soon through his spokesperson, George Charamba.

According to the data, more than 5.8 million people have registered to vote in the next presidential, congressional, and local government elections.

The two main opposition parties, MDC-T and Citizens’ Coalition for Change, are yet to introduce their candidates to the voters whereas the ruling ZANU PF party has already held primary elections to select candidates for the elections.
