‘We’ve To Get Into The System’: Banky W Expresses Readiness To Serve

Bankole Wellington popularly referred to as Banky W says his desire to represent the Eti-Osa federal seat in the National Assembly is motivated by a desire to serve others.
The actor-turned-politician, who is running for the position on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform in the 2023 election, feels that shifting the narrative is more successful when one is inside the system.
While activity and advocacy are important, Banky W, as he is known, believes they are insufficient.
“So, we have to go into the system to be able to reform it from within,” he stated on Monday’s Politics Today on Channels Television. “That is truly what pushed me to start adjusting my focus a few years ago.”
For the actor, his plethora of advocacy experience and entrepreneurial talents are excellent grounds for his foray into politics.
“I genuinely believe that Nigeria’s problems are top-down, but many of the answers are bottom-up,” he continued. “So, we need to start focusing on the different levels – bringing people into government at all levels – and being the change that we want to see from within. So that is what influenced my decision to enter politics.”
Reforms are Required.
If elected, Banky W has also promised to spearhead reform measures in education and health. Being a member of the National Assembly, he believes, will provide him with a stronger platform to do so.
“As a people, we chase inventions very well but we need reforms. “And reform can only happen when reform-minded people are at the policymaking and government table,” Banky W emphasized.
He is convinced that with the support of the people of Eti-Osa, he would be able to secure a place in the House of Representatives.
“The people of Eti-Osa are standing with us,” he added, saying that “what we represent is a chance for Eti-Osa to have transparent, accountable, and empathic representation and that is what we bring to the table. “I am extremely confident that I will win.”
