Truck Ran Over US Returnee in Lagos
On Friday, May 5, a middle-aged man who has not been named perished tragically after being run over by a moving truck on the Isheri-Igando Road in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro has learned that the deceased victim had just returned from a trip when the tragedy happened around 7 p.m.
An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, claimed that he was attempting to cross the road in the Diamond Estate neighborhood of the community after making a purchase when the incident occurred.
The man had just returned from a trip when he asked his chauffeur to halt as he approached the estate where he resided.
“While the man went outside to make a few purchases across from the estate, the driver stopped close to the gate’s entry. After making the purchase, he moved over to the median and stood there. He was going to cross to the opposite side of the road when he was struck by a car. After that, he was struck by a truck approaching from behind.
The man, who was described as wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, is believed to have passed away there and then as the truck raced away.
“The driver was still waiting for him to get back in the car. He came outside to find people gathered around the area after realizing he had gone longer than normal. He realized it was his employer’s body at that point. Later, his body was transferred to the mortuary,” the source continued.
According to the eyewitness, the deceased victim had just returned from the United States, where his children were also residents.
He didn’t stay in the States for very long before joining his wife, who is a resident of the estate. Additionally, he was reportedly getting ready to travel to Abuja the following day for a meeting,” the speaker continued.
PUNCH According to Metro, on Sunday, May 7, a sport utility vehicle smashed a tricycle carrying a family of four down the same road, killing a 10-year-old kid.
It was discovered that the driver of the SUV with the license plate KTU-536-AL was traveling at full speed toward the Igando part of the neighborhood when he lost control.
He then skidded across the center line and struck two buses and a trike that were coming the other way.
The teen passed away promptly on the trike, but the commercial vehicles were only slightly damaged.
Other passengers were hurt and were taken urgently to a nearby hospital.
Apparently, two additional travelers passed away on Monday.
