Tobi Amusan establishes another new record, wins another Diamond League trophy

Tobi Amusan of Nigeria won the women’s 100-meter hurdles event at the Diamond League championship in Zurich.

The winner and record holder in the 100-meter hurdles event at the World and Commonwealth Games crossed the finish line in 12.29 seconds on September 8th. In 12.42 seconds, the Nigerian took home the Diamond League trophy last year.

American Tia Jones placed second in a time of 12.40, while Jamaican Britany Anderson took third place in a time of 12.42.

She won the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) back in August.

Amusan beat the hurdles record in the semifinals of the World Athletic Championship one month earlier in 12.12 seconds.

With a determined performance in Eugene, Oregon, the 25-year-old also became the first Nigerian to take home a gold medal at the competition.

The first and only Nigerian to win the titles of African, Commonwealth, and World champion in the same year is Tobi Amusan.
