“The Woman King, The Dahomey Warriors,” series which stars John Boyega and Viola Davis, is anticipated by Mo Abudu
The official trailer for “The Woman King,” a dramatic epic based on actual historical occurrences that took place in the West African Kingdom of Dahomey (now modern-day Benin), has been released by Sony Pictures.
The Dahomey Empire lasted from 1600 to 1904, when French colonists overthrew them.
Jimmy Odukoya, Lashana Lynch, Thuso Mbedu, Viola Davis, and John Boyega all appear in the movie. The camera was in the hands of director Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Love & Basketball” and “The Old Guard”).
The movie is reportedly “The narrative of Nanisca (Davis), commander of the all-female military unit, and Nawi (Mbedu), an ambitious recruit, who together fought adversaries who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for,” according to Variety.
King Ghezo, the monarch of Dahomey, will be portrayed by John Boyega.
The trailer may be seen below as it was posted with a caption on Mo Abudu’s verified Instagram profile:
