Somewhere In Edo State, Gunmen kill a Catholic Reverend Father

Gunmen are suspected of shooting and killing Reverend Father Charles Igechi of the Benin Archdiocese in Benin City, Edo State.
According to reports, the priest was shot by assailants on his way to work on Wednesday along the Agbor Road in the Ikhueniro neighborhood of Benin.
Augustine Akubeze, the Catholic Archbishop of Benin City, stated that the matter had been reported to the police and expressed optimism that the offenders of the unlawful conduct would receive justice.
In a message of sympathy released on Thursday, Akubeze stated that the priest, who was ordained in August 2022, had been shot in the back.
“With broad sadness and grief in our hearts, we wish to alert you of the passing of one of our priests in the Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Charles Onomhoale Igechi, who received his priesthood on the 13th of August 2022 and who, until his passing, served as the Vice Principal of St. Michael College, Ikhueniro,” the statement read.
“We were shocked to learn this morning that he was shot on June 7, 2023, while returning to his place of employment, and that his remains were discovered on Boundary Street in Ikpoba Hill, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, Edo State.
“Therefore, we would like to ask for your prayers for his soul’s peaceful rest. I humbly request that you use this means to inform all priests that a Mass will be said tomorrow, June 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Center for the rest in peace of Rev. Fr. Charlies Onomhoale igechi.
I commit you all to Our Lady of Sorrow’s maternal intercession. May God continue to lead and guard all of the believers in the Archdiocese of Benin City, and may Rev. Fr. Charles Igechi’s soul find comfort and tranquility in the warm embrace of our risen Savior. Amen.”
