Seun Kuti In Detention Over Police Officer Assault

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has been detained by the Lagos police force for assaulting a police officer.
Mr. Kuti was seen hitting a police officer in a social media video that went viral.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos Police Department, tweeted that Mr. Kuti had surrendered.
According to Mr. Hundeyin, “investigation” would be done into the situation, and justice would “manifestly be served for all parties involved.”
“Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti turned himself in this morning at the Lagos State Police command headquarters in Ikeja while accompanied by his attorney and a member of his family. According to the law, he has been placed under custody, Mr. Hundeyin stated.

The leadership acknowledges the public’s worries and assures them that the continuing inquiry will be thorough, open, and properly conducted. He continued by saying that justice would be clearly served for all those involved.
According to information obtained by DiasporaInfo, Mr. Seun Kuti presented himself up willingly at the Ikeja police station on Monday while being escorted by senior attorney Femi Falana.
Usman Baba, the inspector general of police, issued a warrant for Mr. Kuti’s arrest on Sunday after he was seen on camera punching a police officer.
The statement read, “The IGP has also ordered a swift and thorough investigation into the immediate and remote cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.”
