Secret Service Accused Of False Report After USA VP Kamala Harris Involved In Car Crash
Vice President Kamala Harris had to be transferred to another vehicle in the middle of a Washington, D.C., street on Monday after the Secret Service vehicle she was riding in hit a curb.
According to Fox News, the Secret Service officers who were engaged at first told their superiors that the incident was caused by a “mechanical breakdown” but later admitted that the agent driving had “overcorrected,” According to the Washington Post, Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle reportedly voiced concern that agents had given their superiors the wrong information about the incident.
“This morning, a motorcade car overcorrected during a defensive maneuver and collided with a curb. The protectee was moved to a backup vehicle out of an abundance of caution, and the motorcade continued to its destination “Anthony Guglielmi, the head of communications for the Secret Service, informed Politico.
Initial radio traffic suggested that there was a technical issue, and staff members assisting the motorcade movement informed agency leadership of this, he added. Leadership was verbally updated with further vital information that the car had impacted a curb after the protective maneuver was finished.
Cheatle, who assumed the senior position at the Secret Service in August, didn’t learn about the driver’s collision with the roadside curb leading into the tunnel until after the fact.
Fox News Digital contacted the Secret Service for comment, but they didn’t get back to them.
From an adjacent building, one observer was able to record video of the incident, which they then posted on TikTok.
The motorcade for Kamala Harris is captured on camera after it has already stopped and the location has been protected by armed agents while the vice president was moved.
For the trip, Harris was on her way back to the White House, and she soon made it there without hitch.
According to Harris’ press secretary Kirsten Allen, “The Vice President suffered no injuries and appreciates the rapid intervention by her USSS detail to get her to the White House safely.”
