Rishi Sunak Fined for Defaulting Car Seat Belt Rule

Rishi Sunak, the prime minister, was penalized for not fastening his seatbelt while making a social media video in a moving vehicle.
A conditional offer of a fixed penalty had been made to the Prime Minister, according to Lancashire Police on Friday.
Notably, passengers who are discovered not using a seat belt when one is offered can be fined 100 pounds, with a potential increase to 500 pounds if the matter ends up in court.
“Following the circulation of a video on social media showing an individual failing to wear a seat belt while a passenger in a moving car in Lancashire, we have today (Friday, Jan. 20) issued a 42-year-old man from London with a conditional offer of fixed penalty,” wrote Lancashire Police in a tweet announcing the fine.
While traveling through the north of England, the prime minister was in Lancashire at the time the video was shot.
Sunak’s office issued a statement in response to the news that read: “The prime minister fully accepts this was an error and has apologized. Of course, he will pay the stipulated fine.
“He removed it for a little amount of time to make a tape, which you’ve seen, but he accepts that was a mistake,” the statement continued.
While serving in government, Mr. Sunak had already been issued a fixed penalty notice twice.
He was penalized last year, along with Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie, for violating the Covid lockdown regulations by going to the then-prime minister’s birthday party in Downing Street in June 2020.
