Sheikh Gumi : Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) was insulted when he was alive, but he never killed anyone for it

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric, claims that while Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was insulted by non-Muslims on multiple times during his lifetime, he declined to strike or even murder those who assassinated his personalities.

Sheikh Gumi revealed this while teaching a religious session at his Kaduna Juma’at mosque.

In a video tape collected and translated by PRNigeria, the Kaduna-based expert claimed that the prophet’s hesitation to retaliate when insulted by non-Muslims was due to his fear of being labeled a killer.

Sheikh Gumi made the remarks in response to the lynching of a female Christian student at Sokoto’s Shehu Shagari College of Education for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

Instead than killing individuals over minor concerns, he believes that the best way for Muslims to express their love for Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is to follow his Islamic teachings and obey him.

According to him, both Muslims and Christians in Nigeria have decided to coexist peacefully, hence there are no religious laws in place in the country, which is a secular state.

“Anyone who kills a non-Muslim with whom they have committed to live in peace for 40 years will not smell the fragrance of Paradise,” he explained.

While stressing that no one is authorized to take the law into their own hands in Islam, Sheikh Gumi urged his fellow Islamic clerics to instill sound religious precepts in their followers rather than encouraging them to commit ‘reprehensible’ crimes.

“If we think by killing Deborah, people who are not of the same faith with us will stop insulting our prophet, then we are in delusion,” he concluded.

Sheikh Gumi, a medical doctor and retired military officer, is the current Mufti and Mufassir at the Kaduna Sultan Bello Central mosque, according to PRNigeria.

He is the eldest son of the late Shaykh Abubakar Gumi, the first Grand Khadi of the old Northern Region and a key figure in the spread of Islam in Northern Nigeria.
