President Buhari condemns Deborah Samuel’s murder

Buhari Sanction

President Muhammadu Buhari of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has reacted to the murder of Deborah Samuel, a female student at the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, for alleged blasphemy.

The President severely denounced a mob’s use of self-help in Sokoto, which resulted in violence, devastation, and the death of Deborah Samuel, who allegedly blasphemed Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

President Buhari stated in a statement released on Friday that the news of the young lady’s murder by fellow students was concerning and urged an impartial, thorough investigation into everything that occurred before and during the incident.

He reminded Muslims around the world that while they demand respect for the Holy Prophets, including Isah (Alaihissalaam, Jesus Christ) and Muhammad (SAW), the law does not enable anybody to take matters into their own hands when violations occur, as is stated in this case.

Furthermore, religious leaders emphasize that it is not the role of the believer to pass judgment on the behavior of others. When such issues develop, the established authority must be given the authority to deal with them.

“No one in our country has the right to take the law into their own hands.” “No problem has ever been solved by violence,” stated the President.

President Buhari has also asked the Ministries of Material and Culture, Police Affairs, and Communications and Digital Economy to collaborate with GSM carriers and tech firms to combat the propagation of false and inflammatory information on social media.

The President expressed the nation’s sympathies to the family of the deceased student and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.

He praised the Sokoto State Government’s quick response to the situation and urged religious and community leaders to educate individuals about the importance of exercising their right to free expression properly.

While an inquiry is underway to determine the remote and proximate causes of the incident, President Muhammadu Buhari has called for restrained media comments and public calm.
