Portable tender apology to the headies award organizers
Habeeb Okikola, better known as Portable, a Nigerian rising star, has apologized to Smooth Productions, the organizers of the prestigious Nigerian music awards, The Headies, for his anger on the nominations.
The Headies Award organizers issued a statement on Friday condemning Portable the controversial musician statement for endangering the lives of fellow nominees.
According to the nomination list posted on Tuesday, the fast-rising musician is up for the Best Street-Hop Artiste and Rookie of the Year categories.
“Those are my awards; if anyone else wins, I will demand that they be executed.” I’ll ask them to assassinate the individual. “They would die if the organizers give my honor to someone else,” Portable warned in Yoruba.
“No go give my award to another person, he go die o,” Portable issue the threat on Wednesday.
Smooth Productions, in response to his comments, filed a police report on the disturbing footage. The musician was also told that he needed to repudiate his statement and apologize to his associates in writing.
The musician, in a video posted late Friday, apologized to the organizers while also insisting on receiving the award.
Portable, who described himself as a “madman musician,” stated that he was not in a fight with the organizers.
