Police said Burna Boy was heavily drugged when he flirted with a woman at Cubana Club.
According to a police investigation, Damini Ogulu, alias Burna Boy, was “heavily drugged” and acted “violently and irresponsibly” when he provoked a commotion that left at least two people nearly dead at a nightclub in Lagos on June 7-8.
Burna Boy used his police orderlies to intimidate other fun seekers at the vast Cubana club in the wealthy neighborhood, according to a report filed to the Commissioner’s office from a police outpost on Victoria Island.
Burna Boy had utilized the officers to incite a quarrel inside the nightclub after he made advances at a married woman who was with her husband, Lawrence Irebami.
Burna Boy’s attempt to humiliate her husband was met with immediate resistance, resulting in chaos. According to the article, the couple had only recently married.
As his police guards assaulted the spouse and fired the first bullets into the air, Burna Boy reportedly rejoiced. According to reports, the spouse and one of his friends were injured by further bullets.
Burna Boy ran away from the crime site.
The hospitalized husband then sent his wife to the police station to report the incident, three days after it went unreported outside of early social media indignation on June 8, the morning following the violence.
According to the Peoples Gazette, the police officers did not immediately make reports about what had happened, and when they did, they provided inaccurate descriptions of how the scenario occurred.
After spotting holes in the officers’ assertions, the Victoria Island police unit launched a covert investigation into what happened, discovering that the officers had lied in their report.
The five policemen who were not assigned to the Grammy-winning musician from the Lagos command, according to the report, were assigned to him directly from Abuja.
“He acted violently and irresponsibly at the club,” according to the report, which speculated that he was “heavily drugged” and requested more time to properly investigate all accounts.
The commissioner quickly dispatched X Squad operatives to investigate the situation and the rogue policemen.
According to senior command members, the officers have not been arrested as of Sunday afternoon.
Three of them have fled, while the other two have offered to surrender.
Burna Boy is said to have departed the nation.
The musician has previously been accused of aggressive behavior, notably in 2017 when he was named in a robbery attack on another artist at Lagos’ Eko Hotel and Suites. At the time, the police designated him sought, but the case was later settled on undisclosed terms.
