Peter Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in Nigeria’s recently concluded presidential election, has given an unemployed Nasarawa graduate named Gimba Sophia Emmanuel the confidence she needs to start her own bakery and confectionery business.
In a post on social media on Saturday, Obi claimed that Emmanuel had declared she would buy an oven built in Nigeria, expanding the value chain and putting the Labour Party’s “production-to-consumption” tenet into practice.
The former governor of Anambra State gave Emmanuel a check to acquire an oven.

Obi bemoaned the hardships faced by young Nigerians on Thursday while crying. He had related the story of his encounter with tea maker Emmanuel.
“She graduated in 2018, but has no employment. She informed me she was taking baking classes. When I pressed her on why she hadn’t come here to bake, she replied that she lacked the N75,000 necessary to purchase an oven. Those who lack the N75,000 necessary to purchase an oven live like that in Nigeria,” he had claimed.
