Nigerians’ Visas Are Revoked by Ethiopia at the Airport

Addis Ababa Bole Ethiopian Airport

Ethiopia no longer issues visas to visitors who are citizens of Nigeria.

Ethiopia instructed Nigerians in a letter seen by Newsmen on Wednesday to obtain their visas at its embassies in Abuja before traveling to the East African country, in contrast to the past when they were given a visa on arrival.

When it announced the development, the Ethiopian government omitted to provide an explanation for the revocation. Instead, it said that Nigerians on layovers in the nation would not be subject to the new visa regulations.

“Please be informed that effective immediate that no more visa on arrival for Nigerian citizens. Passengers are to obtain their visa at the Ethiopian Embassy in Abuja before travelling. Please note that: passengers transiting overnight in Addis Ababa are not affected by the ban,” the memo stated.

The move occurred a few months after the UAE revised its visa requirements for citizens of Nigeria and other African countries.

In August, Dubai stopped providing tourist visas to Nigerians under the age of 40.
