Despite the nation’s current economic difficulties, Nigerians spent over N166 million over the Christmas holiday viewing 17 films in theaters.

Between Friday, December 23, 2022, and Sunday, December 25, 2022, the money was spent.

The numbers can be found in the weekly box office data released on the website of the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).

According to the report’s breakdown, 59,349 people entered different theaters around the nation in just two days.

This outstanding showing of movie fans coincides with the fact that many Nigerians are currently experiencing financial hardship due to the high cost of living in the nation.

Netflix and other streaming services are now giving movie theaters a run for their money, but many still like to see movies on a big screen.

According to data breakdown, 29,017 of those in attendance expressed interest in Nollywood films, while 30,332 went to the theatres to see foreign films.

Battle on Buka Street, starring Funke, was the most watched movie of the year with 17,518 viewers and an N48.21 million gross.

Following this, 14,406 people watched Avatar: The Way Q Water, which brought in a staggering N44.39 million for the theaters.

With 10,757 viewers and a gross of N30.89 million, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever placed third among the most watched films.
