The Nigerian youth curling team is the first from the African continent to earn a spot in the 2024 Youth Winter Olympics.

Nigeria‘s qualification for the Mixed and Mixed Doubles events was verified by Daniel Damola, president of the Nigeria Curling Federation.

According to him, Nigeria will be sending a team to the 2024 Youth Winter Olympics in the ice sport of curling after qualifying as the lone African representative at the World Junior B Curling Championship in Finland.

In March of 2023, he informed the Nigeria Olympic Committee that they will receive the qualification ticket and official notification.

As the first African nation, congratulations to the Team Nigeria youth curlers on qualifying for the 2024 Youth Winter Olympics. Each and every one of you, and the boys’ squad as well, has our undying admiration. The jubilant manager boasted, “Still we rise” as he relayed the encouraging news.

The newly honed Nigerian Junior curlers have been predicted to cause a ruckus on the ice in the years to come, after returning from an eye-opening trip to Lohja, Finland, where they played on ice for the first time, alongside the very finest teams in the world.

“The most heartening part of this whole process is that we were able to make it happen by recruiting locals, using home-based athletes, and recruiting kids from the ground up,” the authors write. Says Mr. Daniel.

Everything about their lives, and the country as a whole, will change forever because of this. This is the first time anywhere in Africa that a team has won an event utilizing exclusively young competitors from their own country. I’m relieved and thrilled. Everything from the cleaner to the president has earned my satisfaction. He then added, “I thank God for everything; this is a team victory.”

The president of the Nigeria Curling Federation has said that more may be accomplished if the organization receives the necessary assistance, despite the fact that previous victories have been the result of personal sacrifices given the lack of sponsorship from government quarters.

We did it without any help from the government, the NOC, or the sponsors. So just think what we could have done with financial backing. Every year, I say the same thing: “Yet again, we triumph at the Nigerian curling.”

From January 19 to February 1, 2024, South Korea’s Gangwon Province will host the Youth Winter Olympics.
