Kuje Prisonbreak: Nasarawa police apprehend an escaped prisoner

One prisoner who escaped during the recent raid on the Kuje detention facility has reportedly been recaptured, according to the Nasarawa police command.

Insurgents stormed the Federal Capital Territory’s correctional service facility Kuje Prison on Tuesday.

It was reported that the Boko Haram suspects was among the almost 900 convicts who escaped.

The identities and images of the prisoners who were escaping were made public by the Federal Government on Friday.

The inmate was apprehended by police officers from the Keffi division on the basis of intelligence, according to a statement by Ramhan Nansel, spokeswoman for the Nasarawa police command.

“On July 9, 2022, at about 1:30 am, one Hassan Hassan ‘M’ whose name and picture was amongst the escapees with Boko Haram/Terrorism Case was recaptured by the Police operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command at Keffi,” Nansel said.

“The CP has ordered for the transfer of the suspect to a safer location while the intensive search for other escapees continues.

“The fugitive will be handed over to the appropriate authority for further action.”

He said the CP expressed gratitude to the police personnel in the state for their efforts and “job well done”.

He continued by asking the public for assistance by providing vital details on other suspects who were still on the run.
