Italian Football Fan Convicted Of Fondling TV Reporter

A football fan who grabbed a TV journalist live on air in Italy after a match was given an 18-month suspended sentence on Tuesday.

Greta Beccaglia was hit in the buttocks by a fan as she reported for local Toscana TV outside Empoli’s Carlo Castellani stadium after their Serie A match against Tuscan rivals Fiorentina in November of last year.

The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread indignation in Italy and prompting widespread condemnation from the country’s premier football league.

Andrea Serrani, an Italian restaurateur, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexual assault, with five years of his sentence suspended after a speedy trial, as reported by the ANSA news agency.
