Dutch PM Mark Rutte Banter With Biden on Twitter

This past weekend, as the Netherlands knocked the United States out of the World Cup, President Joe Biden and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte exchanged witty tweets about whether the game is “football” or “soccer,” as Americans refer to it.
In a video message on Twitter, Biden wished the US team success before their matchup against the Dutch squad on Saturday at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha. “It’s called soccer,” Biden added.
But the merciless Netherlands quickly put an end to the Americans’ World Cup hopes, winning 3-1 to go to the quarterfinals. Rutte quickly responded to Biden’s tweet.
He included an emoji wink and stated, “Sorry Joe, football won.”
Biden responded early on Sunday.
He replied, using the Dutch word for football, “Strictly speaking, shouldn’t it be ‘voetbal’?”
Congratulations to your team and nation, Mark, all kidding aside. The US president said, “Rematch in New Zealand.”
The Netherlands might be opponents when the competition is held in New Zealand in 2020. The US women’s team won the 2019 World Cup.
