DR Congo Expelled Reuters Reporter Sonia Rolley

Sonia Rolley, a French reporter for Reuters, was expelled on Tuesday after the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s authorities rejected her request for accreditation.
Ms. Rolley applied for accreditation in September in order to take on a new position managing Reuters’ local news coverage.
While she awaited the outcome of her second application, she was given temporary permission to cover a climate conference in Kinshasa, the nation’s capital, in October.
She was asked to appear Tuesday in Kinshasa before immigration officers in lieu of responding to the application.
She was then deported to Paris after having her passport taken. The rationale for the action was not stated.
The interior ministry was suggested to Reuters when it contacted the police communications office, but the ministry’s spokesman did not return calls.
According to a Reuters statement, “We are providing Sonia Rolley with help and immediately requesting information from the Congolese authorities.” “Reuters will continue to report from Congo in an impartial and unbiased manner, as we do anywhere else,”
