Dino Melaye, Others Stage Walkout on INEC Chairman, Want Result Collation In Abuja Stopped

Dino Melaye

At the national collation center in Abuja on Monday, former senator Dino Melaye and former governor of Imo State Emeka Ihedioha opposed the announcement of the results.

Melaye, a representative of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had voiced his displeasure with how the results of the presidential election were compiled by state collation officers.

He had asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to show the uploaded results on the screen before the procedure could continue. He said that the results that were posted were different from what the collation officers were displaying.

“INEC made a mistake in the results broadcast. The INEC chairman avoided commenting when I and other party agents brought up the matter, he claimed.

As a result, some party leaders have vehemently criticized INEC staff for being unable to post election results to the IReV from the polling places.

Melaye reaffirmed that viewing the uploaded results is the only method for them to verify that BVAS hasn’t been circumvented.

We demand that the INEC chairman show uploaded results broken down by state as the results were announced, he added.

The INEC Chairman, Mahood Yakubu, warned Dino Melaye not to “disrupt” the collation process while the PDP Party Agent expressed his displeasure. The PDP Chieftain had insisted that the results announced by the State Collation Officers should have first been uploaded on IReV for transparency and accountability.

Emeka Ihedioha, Dino Melaye, and others organized a work out of the national collation center in response.

Hence, the collation process had gone on without them.
