Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the presidential and National Assembly elections held last Saturday, has been criticized by veteran Nigerian singer-songwriter Charly Boy for being too weak to struggle to retrieve his allegedly stolen mandate.

According to a previous report, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was named the victor of last Saturday’s presidential election by the Independent National Election Commission.

However, Charly Boy referred to the election as a “selection” and not “an election” in response to the results in an audio discussion that SaharaReporters heard on Thursday.

When asked his position following Bola Tinubu’s election as president by INEC, the singer responded, “This is not an election, it is selection. But now that you know our man (Peter Obi), you know he doesn’t want difficulty (he doesn’t want trouble) because these people are seeking for even the smallest opportunity to kill more people and destroy more evidence in order to get rid of him.

When asked if he meant Obi or former President Olusegun Obasanjo when he replied, “Baba, yes plus our man too and that chat happened around three days ago,” he responded, “Baba, yes plus Olusegun Obasanjo.”

Charly Boy, who spoke with former president Olusegun Obasanjo in a leaked audio clip confirmed it in an audio recording obtained by media outlet on Thursday, asked him to mobilize Nigerians to oppose the allegedly rigged presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday.

In the meantime, Charly Boy originally rejected the audio chat in a SaharaReporters interview, calling it a hoax.

He maintained that his voice was altered during a phone interview with SaharaReporters.

The tape of Charly Boy telling former President Obasanjo that the presidential election on February 25, 2023, “was stolen” was published by Peoples Gazette.

It was proven that former president Obasanjo instructed Charly Boy and Donald Duke to organize Nigerians in opposition to Bola Tinubu’s designation as the country’s next leader during the call.

The veteran singer-songwriter admitted having the chat with the former president in an audio clip that SaharaReporters later acquired.

He mentioned that the conversation had taken place roughly three days prior, but claimed that Obasanjo later called to put an end to the demonstration after thinking about how many Nigerians the current regime would kill.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who finished second and third in the poll, were defeated by Tinubu, according to INEC’s official findings.

The electoral umpire violated the rules it had established for the election, which stated that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), an electronic device designed to read Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and authenticate voters, would be used for accreditation and uploading of the results of polling units. The election was largely characterized by voter suppression, thuggery, and manipulation of results.

It didn’t occur during the election, though, since INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu claimed that there were problems with the system.
