ASUU Strike: Lecturer agreements will be implemented next week — Federal Government

ASUU chris Ngige

On Friday, the Federal Government expressed confidence that recent agreements negotiated with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other education unions will bear fruit next week.

Olajide Oshundun, the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s Head of Press and Public Relations, said as much in a statement released on Friday.

According to the statement, Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, made the claim while speaking to reporters shortly after a meeting about the continuing strike actions by unions in the education sector.

Following the federal government’s failure to accept their demands, ASUU, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and other public university unions went on strike.

“We had a pleasant and good discussion,” Ngige said. “We looked at the issues objectively and made some compromises, to the pleasure of everyone in attendance.”

“We talked.” Everyone was delighted. We reached some deals, and we expect those accords to start solidifying next week.”
