“ASUU is a very useless union” – Bashir El-Rufai tweet
Bashir El-Rufai, the son of the governor of Kaduna State, has demanded that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), be disbanded.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was established in Nigeria in 1978. It is a branch of the 1965-founded Nigerian Association of University Teachers.
Since February 14th, 2022, the union has been on an indefinite strike. To put it another way, the union has been on strike for roughly seven months now, calling for, among other things, the deployment of UTAS to replace IPPIS and the implementation of the 2009 renegotiated agreement, which contains the terms of service for its members.
The long-standing disputes with FG, however, led ASUU to advise Nigerian students and parents to lobby FG to accede to her demands.
Irked by the protracted strike, Bashir criticized the union and said it should be abolished in favor of educators who put the needs of pupils first.
His words quoted: “ASUU is a very useless Union. They should be scrapped & replaced with educators that actually give a damn about students and how that translates to the future of this country”.
