A Nigerian woman who once worked as a cleaner emerge the first black woman to bag PhD. from Canadian University
Addy Olubamiji, a stunning Nigerian woman, has detailed how she became the first black woman to earn a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.
Addy mentioned in a recent Twitter post that she originated from an impoverished family but that her will to succeed helped her flourish.
Addy claims that her mother worked as a farmer while her father struggled to make ends meet. Addy, even when she was little, would go out into the streets to sell pepper so that she could aid her family.
As she puts it:
“Exactly 5 years ago today, I became the FIRST BLACK PERSON to obtain a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from @usask Canada .
” I was the last, a girl child and raised by a mother who is farmer and a father who has little. I hawked pepper on the streets of Ibadan at age 10 to help my mum.”
Addy Olubamiji was a dedicated young woman who worked as a cleaner while studying in another country.
Addy went on to Obafemi Awolowo University, where she received a second-class upper diploma.
She went on to study Biomedical Engineering at the University of Helsinki in Finland. She worked part-time as a cleaner during her master’s degree and maintained to do so afterward.
She applied to over 100 colleges for my PhD and was awarded a full three-year scholarship to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Engineering as a result of her dedication.
The brilliant woman earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, making her the first black person to do so.
She published on her microblogging platform “twitter” she said :
“Today I walked the stage as the first black person to bag a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from University of Saskatchewan, Canada!! I walked this stage for you Mama Africa and for my Motherland Nigeria!”
